Post Civil War and South Africa

The Civil War can be compared and contrasted just like a lot of other things but not all things are important like this. South Africa can be compared to the post Civil War for racism was a big deal. This involved rights, education, and citizenship. All of this was happening in both America and South Africa.

Rights were of one of the biggest issues and they still are today. Owning land and voting were of the biggest issues. Women’s rights started so they are able to own land, start a business, and not to be called property by their husbands. Blacks weren’t able to do these things either. Even the Women’s Rights movement helped show people that everyone should be created equal.

Education is the only way to get up in society. Without education, it’s almost impossible to get a good job and live a happy life, unless you’re lucky and win the lottery, which is almost impossible too. Most whites did not like the idea of blacks learning how to read and write. If there were a school that enrolled blacks, more then likely, it would have been burned down because whites didn’t want them to learn. Education is the key to success.

Being a citizen comes with a lot of goodies. Most people like the feeling of being a citizen or having citizenship of the country of which they live in. Most blacks weren’t considered citizens. You would feel bad too if you lived in a country where you couldn’t even feel like home cause your not even considered a citizen in that place.

So many things in America post Civil War and South Africa had a lot of things going on. Even though they were thousands of miles away, they still had a lot in common.

Big Ben!

Wow iI enjoy reading your blog. You did a wonderful job on it. I like how you included that rights is still a big issue today. The Civil War was a big deal because all the killings and all the racism. I am really glad that you said women's rights had started so we could be able to own land, start a business and not to be called our husband's property. Over all i really enjoy reading your blog.

Like your post. When you have more than one, "biggest issues" you should just put them all together. I like the comparison to South Africa also. Overall it was a good post, just watch your grammar and such.

I find this blog to be very interesting. The comparisons of South Africa and post civil war are much alike. I respect the fact that you stated the fact that “education is the key to success”, as it is very true. The whites knew this to be true, so they didn’t respect the fact that blacks could be able to succeed in life, so attempts to take that away took place. Also like you said, it wasn’t just Africa and America that was going through these same situations, as it’s happening all over the world. Great job!

Hey benji. Nice blog. I liked how you connected everything together, through the post civil war and south africa. Your ideas also went with my last blog about how women were a big part of the post civil war. You even made this topic a little more interesting. Keep up the good work. :]

nice short blog. Education is the key to sucess. The whites seemed to have better education than the blacks and they wanted to keep that by preventing the blacks from getting their educations. The whites will do anything to accomplish this goal even it means by burning down school buildings. You are right about this one. i like the idea of comparing the apartheid in South Africa to the post civil war in America but unfortunatley you failed to explain further more about the apartheid in South Africa. You just talked more about America than South Africa. better luck next time.

I really enjoyed reading your blog. Your right, the rights given to people are still being deprived today. During Reconstruction the White man was truly trying to keep the Black man down. Nothings feels better then getting the full perks for being a citizen of a country known for it's freedom. I also liked the fact that your blog was short so it made me pay more attention.

This was a very good blog. I am glad you mentioned that racism, was not the only reason that sparked apartheid and the civil war because. Civil rights, education, and citizenship were also a major part of this conflicts. Imagine if the Africans and the many races were free from racism, but were withheld civil rights, education and citizenship. It would be very hard for the people and their posterity, to be able to be successful in the lands they lived in.(

Its horrible that black people were deprived of so many things during that time period. Many white people felt that they could suppress the race so they would not be able to become an active role in society. Its a good thing that they were able to fight and gain their rights, because they are a very important role in our society today.

South Africa and the Cival War did have many things in common. I liked the way you connected the two ideas. Your blog was very short, but straight to the point, which i loved.Education was the overall main thing amongst the blacks and whites. The whites would try anything to prevent blacks from education.

I have read so many things about racism that it gets kind of ridiculous. I mean really if you think about it a whole war pretty much started over people hating other people. Many people died and things were destroyed just because people couldn't get along. The thing that I don't understand is why people can't just put aside their difference and deal with it. It makes you realize how different things were back then and how hard life was and makes you happy to at least be born in this century.
