“Oh what’s that little Johnny, you got your finger cut off again. On your right hand, no way! You should try to be more careful even though its noisy and u don’t have any gloves but u just have to put up with it little guy. Hopefully you can get a better job. Psyche! Get back to work!” Imagine working in the factories two hundred years ago, it was horrible. Low pay, bad conditions, and only so many open spots for hire.
When living in the cities, the only job that could be found is being a factory worker, working in assembly lines. The pay was extremely low. Most family members had to get a job even at the young age of five just so the family could get enough money to get dinner. So if you were four, get ready to watch the babies at home and learn how to change a diaper.
Close your eyes and imagine your in a big room full with other people of all ages, you have loose clothing, very noisy, and u can barely see the hand in your face. This is what it was like to be in the factory. Most of the jobs were dangerous and machines around you could easily cut off your hand or even severely injure you. If you do get hurt to the point of where u can’t work your job well enough, “well sorry to tell you but your position has been filled, don’t cut off your other hand on the way out.”
Hundreds of immigrants were coming to America everyday after boat load after boat load. Well with so many immigrants coming in, most of them would work for even less pay then the citizens originally living there. Keeping a job was the most important thing to concentrate on. It was a guarantee that a job opening would be filled by the end of the day hands down. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a job manager waiting at the docks just waiting for the next boat of immigrants to come see if any would work for very low pay.
So poor little Johnny can’t work any more to his full extent unlike the immigrant pulling in port in a hour or so from New England and would work more and for less pay then Johnny. City life must have been bad when it came to being in the work force.

Go ben! I guess that is right poor Johnny. Just think of all the kids who were injured at such a young age because they was working at factories like that. The same thing is happening today in other countries that are making knockoff handbags. They are having the young children in lttle sweatshops making cheaper bags. I mean alot of those bags look really good but the labor procedures are still unfair.
